A vehicle-pedestrian collision has left a man in critical condition early Thursday morning, with the incident taking place on S. Nellis Boulevard just north of Boulder Highway. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, at around 3:19 a.m., a Hummer H3, driven by James Lee Larason, 60, struck pedestrian Steven Brito, 45, who was standing in the roadway.

Investigators report that the Hummer was trailing another vehicle that swerved to avoid Brito, however, the Hummer was unable to maneuver around him in time, resulting in the collision after the other vehicle had changed lanes abruptly, Larason, who remained at the scene, was assessed by responding officers and showed no signs of impairment. Medical personnel quickly transported Brito to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's Trauma Unit, where he is currently listed as being in severe condition.

The accident shutdown a portion of S. Nellis Boulevard as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section conducted their initial assessment and began their investigation into the cause of the tragic encounter. The area has since been cleared and reopened for traffic.
