
A man confined to a wheelchair was discovered with a gunshot wound on Chicago's South Side Wednesday night after officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert. The Chicago Tribune reported that the shooting occurred around 10:20 p.m., on the 7400 block of South Perry Avenue.
The victim was found injured, with a bullet wound to his right hip, he was on the sidewalk when authorities arrived at the scene. According to police, the suspect had already fled in an undisclosed direction, leaving no immediate trace. CBS News Chicago reported the presence of numerous evidence markers and several bullets scattered across the street.
The Chicago Fire Department officials quickly transported the man to the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was described as being in fair condition upon admission. Despite the seriousness of the event, the victim refused to provide any information that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are actively looking into the situation, but, as of Thursday, no suspect(s) have been apprehended in connection with the shooting. Detectives from Area 1 are handling the case and are calling on the public for any information that might help in their inquiries.
