Pittsburgh's Mount Washington neighborhood became the focal point of a police investigation following an overnight shooting that injured one person. Around 10:30 p.m., the city's ShotSpotter system, designed to detect gunfire, triggered an eleven-round alert on the unit block of Estella Avenue, according to the City of Pittsburgh.
In the aftermath, a male gunshot victim was able to luckily drive himself to the local Pittsburgh EMS Medic 8 station situated off Proctor Way, despite a wound to his upper back. The victim was later transported to a nearby hospital by Pittsburgh Medic 2 and is reportedly in stable condition. While the vehicle the man arrived in showed signs of gunfire damage, a shocking discovery was made as a 5-year-old female child was found unharmed in the backseat. She was subsequently returned safely to the care of her family.
Witnesses observed a dark-colored Dodge Durango, bearing Pennsylvania plates MBR-9566, hastily leave the scene. The public has been urged by authorities to provide any information they might have by calling Police Headquarters at the number 412-323-7800. Additionally, various other vehicles in the vicinity of the crime scene also sustained bullet damage, highlighting the incident's potential for additional casualties.
The Pittsburgh Police's Mobile Crime Unit swiftly arrived to begin to seriously process evidence at Estella Avenue and at the location outside the medic station where the victim's vehicle was found. As the investigation continues, detectives from the Violent Crime Unit are spearheading the efforts to uncover the motives and the perpetrator(s) behind the shooting.
