A family dispute aboard a VIA bus turned violent on San Antonio's West Side when a man reportedly shot his uncle following an argument. Police were dispatched to the intersection of Culebra Road and North General McMullen just past 6 p.m. yesterday, where they discovered a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, his condition post-surgery remains undisclosed, according to KENS 5.
Per witness accounts and police reports, the shooter, identified as the victim's 26-year-old nephew, fled the bus and was later apprehended following a brief chase; despite his capture police did not recover the weapon allegedly used in the incident and the search continues, as KSAT reported. Witnesses on the bus, numbering eight, saw the event unfold, the nephew alighting from the bus and running onto General McMullen with officers in immediate pursuit until they took him into custody nearby.
One eyewitness, Belinda Martinez, recounted the chilling moment of the altercation to KENS 5, "Right when I was getting to the Bill Miller’s parking lot, I heard a pop like something go off and I was just like oh my god and I just ran home." Following the incident, a VIA spokesperson expressed appreciation for law enforcement's involvement and relief that no other passengers were harmed stating, “We appreciate the police who are investigating the incident. We’re glad no one else was hurt. Because there is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment any further.”
