With temperatures rising and the heat of summer sweltering down on Maricopa County, a network of cooling stations has opened up to offer relief to residents. Outlined on the City of Goodyear's official website, these Heat Relief Sites have been instituted to provide a haven for those looking to escape the heat through September 30.
These sites, which include community centers, churches, and various organizations, are not just places to cool down but also provide complimentary water, making them a critical resource for the public. An individual seeking respite from the oppressive heat can find nearby locations by visiting the city's resource map. According to the city's announcement, these centers will operate every day, offering a safe, cool indoor reprieve during the hottest hours.
In the area of Goodyear, several locations have been designated as cooling centers. Residents can head to the Georgia T. Lord Library at 1900 N. Civic Sq. in Goodyear, AZ, or visit neighboring Avondale's Civic Center Library on 11350 Civic Center Dr and the Sam Garcia Library found at 495 E. Western Ave. For those closer to Litchfield Park, the Litchfield Park Library at 101 W. Wigwam Blvd. provides a similar escape from the relentless Arizona sun. The Salvation Army – Estrella Mountain Corps, located at 11 N. 3rd Ave. in Avondale, is another spot included in this relief movement.
