The landscape of employment in Maricopa could soon change dramatically, following a key presentation by Chief Economic Strategy Officer Rick Horst at a recent City Council meeting, the details of which were given in an engaging presentation illustrating the city's potential future growth.
City officials have been playing the long game purchasing a significant stretch of 680 acres on the south side of the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway; their aim is to draw in industries that can offer thousands of well-paying jobs to the local populace, with one project alone estimated to bring about 37,000 new positions in industrial and manufacturing sectors to the city, something that has locals tentatively excited about the prospects for economic upliftment.
According to a report by the City’s Office of Economic Opportunity, this development, part of Proposition 482 which voters will decide on in the July 30 ballot authorizing the city to sell, is expected to open doors to numerous job opportunities. Rick Horst emphasized the potential, saying, "The foundation has been laid, and now were going to start seeing the results."
This projected job is not the only economic advancement on Maricopa's horizon, the city has witnessed the addition of over 400,000 square feet of retail and commercial development over the past four years and this trend is poised to continue with new ventures such as a trampoline park interested in setting up off Alterra Parkway and JWP, alongside thriving commercial spaces surrounding major retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Aldi grocery store.
