A somber Independence Day memory was forged in Marietta as a fatal traffic collision claimed the life of a local man and left a woman with serious injuries. According to WSB-TV, just before the twilight of 6 p.m. on July 4, 59-year-old resident Carl E. Scealf Jr. veered across the median of Powder Springs Road in his 1999 Isuzu Rodeo and collided with a 2003 Honda Accord, operated by Amber Singleton, age 30.
The site of the crash, situated in proximity to the traffic light fronting Smitha Middle School, became an impromptus nexus of tragedy and confusion. The Isuzu, after breaching the demarcation of safety represented by the road's centerline, engaged in a direct confrontation with Singleton's maroon vehicle. FOX 5 Atlanta reported the woman was subsequently transported to Kennestone Hospital, bearing the weight of serious injuries sustained from the incident.
Police have posited that an unforeseen medical event precipitated Scealf's fatal maneuver, though the specifics of such medical distress remain undisclosed. Scealf himself was ushered urgently to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where the finality of a pronouncement of death awaited.
Authorities are calling on anyone who might shed some light on the circumstances of the collision to come forward. They request that witnesses or individuals with information reach out to the Cobb County Police Department STEP Unit at 770-499-3987.
