A MassDOT worker's life was abruptly ended this weekend when a vehicle struck them in Bridgewater, as they were in the act of clearing debris from a roadway. The fatal incident occurred near exit 28B (Route 106) on Route 24 northbound, shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, Massachusetts State Police Department reported.
The worker, whose identity has not been released to the public, was outside their vehicle attending to the remnants of daily transit. According to NBC Boston, they sustained injuries that proved to be fatal. The involved vehicle did not flee the scene, an element that can often complicate or elongate investigations into such tragedies.
Following the accident, local authorities necessitated the closure of the northbound lanes, causing a temporary halt of the night's relentless flow of traffic. Several hours passed before the lanes were reopened, as confirmed by the Massachusetts State Police Department. This served as both a practical means of addressing the immediacy of the tragedy and a somber pause on the habitual, a moment for reflection on the fragility that lurks beneath the surface of the everyday.
Investigations are currently ongoing, being led by the Plymouth County State Police Detectives Unit, according to the details shared by Boston 25 News. The precise dynamics of the accident remain undisclosed, as investigations seek to unfold the sequence of events that led to such an unfortunate outcome.
