Yesterday afternoon in Dorchester, a routine traffic stop quickly turned serious when a local man was charged with firearm possession. According to Boston Police Department, officers part of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested 25-year-old Jordan Galloway of Mattapan after discovering a firearm in his vehicle. The stop occurred at the intersection of Columbia Road and Dorchester Avenue when Galloway's car, notable for its conspicuously tinted side windows, drew police attention.
The official time of the arrest was given as 12:48 PM. When the police approached the vehicle, after signaling Galloway to pull over, they reportedly noticed him reaching towards the right side of the vehicle. The situation tensed as officers described how the operator, later identified as Galloway, was presenting signs of nervousness handling paperwork with shaking hands, sweating profusely, and breathing heavily during the interaction.
The officers conducted a pat frisk of Galloway's car and discovered a Ruger 380 handgun. This weapon was not merely present but poised with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine, ready for use. Galloway was thereupon arrested and is now facing serious charges which include Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawal Possession of Ammunition as detailed by the arresting officers.
The repercussions for Mr. Galloway are now in the hands of the judiciary as the arraignment is slated to take place in Dorchester District Court. The community, often reminded of the pervasive issues of gun violence, now bears silent witness to yet another case where the potential for violence was snuffed out by the vigilance of law enforcement.
