
Tragedy struck in a Memphis parking lot late Sunday night as 23-year-old London Montgomery was fatally shot while seated in a stolen Mercedes SUV, which ultimately crashed into a retaining wall. As reported by Nashville.gov, the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Unit is piecing together the deadly events that unfolded on Hamilton Crossings Road.
Montgomery, who had arrived shortly before 10 p.m., parked the Mercedes next to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. An interaction ensued as one individual from the Jeep entered Montgomery's vehicle, followed by another who appeared to attempt a robbery. This chaotic sequence culminated in the tragic shooting of the young man as he tried to escape, with the vehicle subsequently careening into the wall. Montgomery was later transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The perpetrators fled in their Jeep, leaving behind a grim tableau for detectives to decipher.
The investigation has focused on the nature of the interaction, considering it drug-related. Detectives are actively pursuing leads to identify the suspects involved.
