A tragic family dispute has led to the arrest of Rhakeem Fields, 33, on charges of voluntary manslaughter after Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers responded to a deadly shooting on Hickory Villas Drive. According to a release from the MPD, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. yesterday, where the suspect's mother, Katrina Fields-Michael, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries, according to Local Memphis.
As per Local Memphis, the argument between Fields and his mother over money led up to the fatal incident. Fields, who is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond, admitted to investigators that the argument stemmed from his refusal to give his mother money from his Supplemental Security Income. He claimed his mother attempted to hit him with a wooden stick, prompting him to grab his gun and fire three times.
The Action News 5 report provided further details on the charges against Fields, clarifying that he has been charged with voluntary manslaughter - a charge used in certain cases where the perpetrator did not have prior intent to kill. The report from FOX13 Memphis corroborated the series of events, adding that after the shooting, Fields had laid down the gun and made the call to police himself.
