
The Memphis Police Department is on the lookout for a suspect following an overnight incident in North Memphis, where shots were fired at an officer. As reported by WREG, the encounter occurred just before 4 a.m. when an officer, while en route to a call for service, noticed a speeding vehicle near Springdale Street that turned onto Matthews Avenue.
According to the officer's account, upon stopping at the intersection to track the vehicle's direction, a passenger emerged from the car and began shooting at the officer. The squad car and officer were not hit, and the officer did not return fire, said MPD. The assailants fled in what has been described as a dark-colored Nissan sedan.
This version of events was corroborated by a report from FOX13 Memphis, which detailed that the officer had been responding to a call in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The incident reportedly took a turn when a single bullet was fired in the officer's direction by the vehicle's passenger.
