Six Arizona cities have been named leaders in national economic growth, with Mesa and Phoenix standing out in the large cities category, ranked first and third respectively, according to Phoenix Business Journal. Mesa's climb to the top is credited to significant population growth and a boost in median earnings, factors that propelled the city above Phoenix despite Phoenix's robust development.
The study, which assessed economic progression from 2018 to 2022 using an array of data points from reputable sources including the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economics, highlights the Valley's 38% surge in gross domestic product (GDP), placing Mesa and Phoenix just behind Austin, Texas, and the 34% expansion in infrastructure, with over 16,000 miles of new roads laid down to accommodate the growing regions, Mesa's score of 66 based on Coworking Cafe's methodology reflects its diversified economy and investment in infrastructure, which was recently bolstered by a 225,000-square-foot facility opening and a $16 million grant to extend the Tempe Streetcar, per the same study, as reported by Phoenix Business Journal.
"Mesa and Phoenix led Coworking Cafe’s Top Cities for Economic Growth report released July 2, ranking No. 1 and No. 3 among the top large cities," said in a statement provided by ABC15.
