According to the MPD's announcement, the incident occurred on June 25, 2021, when an individual brazenly shattered the window of a parked car on the 1100 block of T Street, Northwest. The theft, which involved an iPad and a laptop, prompted a swift investigation by authorities.

Within days, the Metropolitan Police had closed in on a suspect. The break in the case came when officers found the suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle. Occupying the stolen car during the arrest, it was clear that the individual's spree had come to an end. A local man, 23-year-old Tyrone Curtis Nicholson of Northwest D.C., was charged with multiple offenses, including Theft First Degree, Destruction of Property, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.
