A man has been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with several burglary incidents throughout Washington, D.C. The arrest occurred in the early morning hours of July 24, according to a press release from the department.
While attempting to make a routine stop around 12:11 a.m. on 9th Street NW, officers were led on a brief chase when the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Don Diego Chase of District Heights, MD, tried to evade capture but he didn't get far before the police detained and disarmed him, finding a weapon in the process. The arrest led to the recovery of a firearm which the suspect was found to be carrying without a proper license among other charges.
Chase is now facing multiple serious charges, including Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of Unregistered Firearm/Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. Additional allegations against him include Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Receiving Stolen Property ($1000 or more), coupled with two counts of Fugitive from Justice and Resisting Arrest while armed, as detailed in the official MPD statement.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by MPD to address crime in the district, and this multi-charge arrest serves as a reminder of the challenges police face daily, in their mission to keep the community safe by curbing illegal activities such as carrying unlicensed weapons and burglary though the full circumstances of Chase's alleged intent and connections to the various offenses remains under investigation, according to law enforcement officials.
