The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a deadly shooting that took place early Monday morning in Northeast Washington. According to a press release by the MPD, officers arrived at the 3500 block of Ames Street, Northeast, following reports of gunfire at approximately 2:46 a.m. on July 29, 2024.
Upon their arrival, officers found an adult male victim who was unconscious and not breathing, displaying signs of gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has since been identified as 29-year-old Phillip Williams, who reportedly had no fixed address.
MPD has yet to announce any suspects in connection with the homicide or a possible motive behind the shooting. Ames Street is a residential area, and the shooting has caused unease among community members, reminding many of the continuous challenge the city faces with gun violence.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the Metropolitan Police have called for anyone with information to come forward.
