The Metropolitan Police Department is diligently gathering evidence after a tragic incident that claimed the life of a young man in Northwest Washington. On Sunday afternoon, a series of gunshots rang out, prompting the immediate response of law enforcement.
Detectives canvased the area following the reports heard near the 700 block of Missouri Avenue, Northwest. While canvassing, an adult male victim was discovered with gunshot wounds in the neighboring 5700 block of 7th Street, Northwest, suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities swiftly transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where lifesaving attempts after being made came to a halt, and the individual was pronounced deceased.
The victim has since been identified by authorities as 18-year-old Raymond Washington, hailing from Northeast Washington.
Police are turning to the community for assistance, asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward. According to a statement released by MPD, they urge those with any knowledge of the events to avoid approaching the situation directly but immediately contact the authorities at (202) 727-9099. Alternatively, tips can be texted anonymously to the Department's dedicated TIP LINE at 50411. As an incentive to encourage community cooperation, the department is offering a substantial monetary reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case or any other violent crime in the District of Columbia.
