Miami-Dade County has just raised the bar for local governments nationwide, having been awarded a staggering 142 Achievement Awards by the National Association of Counties (NACo). This considerable haul of accolades speaks to the innovative strides made across multiple departments, aimed at servicing community needs with greater efficacy and vision. Their efforts have not only drawn praise but have also set benchmarks for other counties to aspire to.
In a statement to Miami-Dade's official website, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said, "I am immensely proud that our county has been honored with this remarkable recognition, which is a testament to the dedication, creativity, and hard work of our county employees who consistently strive to improve the quality of life for our residents." She underscored the gravity of the achievement, noting that the awards reflect the county's overarching commitment to innovation and excellence in the public sphere.
This year's nod from NACo spans across 11 departments within the county's organizational structure. Notable among them, the Miami-Dade Public Library System not only amassed an impressive 77 awards but also garnered “Best in Class” recognition for creating autism-friendly spaces—a clear signal prioritizing inclusivity and accessibility in their initiatives. Acknowledged alongside them, the Information Technology Department took home 36 awards, underscoring the tech-forward approach the county has embraced.
While the list of accolades includes contributions from departments such as the Communications and Customer Experience Department, which received 5 awards, and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, which secured 7, a comprehensive list of the awards can be found for those interested on NACo's website.
