In a step towards easing housing affordability in Miami-Dade County, officials are set to start construction on the final phase of the Brownsville Transit Village. The ground-breaking ceremony for Phase V of this project, a concerted effort by multiple county departments, is scheduled for July 22. Notable attendees include Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and Commissioners Eileen Higgins and Keon Hardemon.

Adjacent to the Brownsville Metrorail Station, this latest phase aims to enhance the community with new affordable housing units. With project partners such as Atlantic Pacific Companies and the Mount Sinai Community Development Corporation, Phase V introduces 120 additional housing units reserved for extremely low and low-income families. As per a Miami-Dade County announcement, families will have access to a mix of studios and one-bedroom apartments, along with a community room, fitness center, and onsite laundry facilities. Scheduled for completion in August 2025, the units will cater to those earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The initiative is part of a larger five-phase project that started back in 2014. The first four phases have delivered 401 affordable housing units, a parking garage accommodating both residents and Metrorail commuters, and retail spaces adding commercial value to the locality. Atlantic Pacific Companies President Kenneth Naylor, among others, will be ceremoniously present to witness the commencement of this final chapter in Brownsville's development journey.

The ceremony will be held at 5115 NW 29th Ave, Miami, FL 33142, adjoining the Metrorail station that many residents use in Brownsville. County officials believe that the integration of transit options and affordable housing is a strategy that will benefit the long-term sustainability of the city. Press interested in covering the event need to RSVP, as per the County's note, with interviews and photo opportunities available upon request. With the awaited completion of Phase V, Brownsville Transit Village looks to solidify its reputation as a cornerstone of affordable.
