Residents and commuters in Minneapolis should brace for delays and rerouting as major work to upgrade the city's natural gas infrastructure moves into the next phase. The latest reports by CenterPoint Energy and its authorized contractors suggest extended closures on blocks of 58th St. W. and Upton Ave. S. Significant progress has been made, with crews working diligently east from Xerxes Avenue S to Upton Avenue S to replace the old gas mains with new ones.

Despite disruptions, parts of 58th St. W. are set to reopen to traffic soon. From Washburn Avenue S. to Upton Avenue S., the street will be accessible again starting either this week or the next, according to CenterPoint Energy - Minnesota. Running from Xerxes Avenue S. to Washburn Avenue S., closures on 58th Street W. will continue until late summer or fall 2024. During this period, all steel main footage within the project's scope will be installed. Next up for works is the stretch of 55th Street W, roughly 100 feet towards Upton Avenue S. which will face closures closer to project wrap-up for the connection of the new and existing mains.

"We appreciate your patience as we’re upgrading our infrastructure," said CenterPoint Energy.
