Country music fans in Charlotte will need to mark new dates in their calendars, as Morgan Wallen has postponed his upcoming concerts scheduled for July 18 and 19 at Bank of America Stadium, citing illness as the reason for the delay. In a social media post on X, which for those who might still call it Twitter out of habit, Wallen expressed regret over the decision, saying, "I hate to reschedule shows but I powered through being sick in Tampa last night, and unfortunately woke up feeling way worse today," and added, "I would not give you guys anywhere near 100% tonight and as a result, I need to move tonight's Tampa show to Oct. 4 and next week's Charlotte shows to Oct. 18 and 19." The postponement was first reported by WBTV and later confirmed by other local media.
Having previously made headlines for non-musical reasons, including a 2021 incident in which he was recorded using a racial slur and a series of legal and health setbacks that troubled much of 2024, Wallen seems to be having a tough year. Fans learned about Wallen's need to take a vocal rest and about his arrest on felony charges following an incident involving a chair and a rooftop bar in Nashville, as noted by articles in various outlets including WCNC.
Despite the setbacks, his "One Night At A Time" tour has been met with strong ticket sales, prompting the addition of a second Charlotte show back in September 2023 to satisfy overwhelming demand. The canceled concerts were also set to feature performances by supporting acts Bailey Zimmerman, Nate Smith, and Bryan Martin. Concert promoter Live Nation has stated that all tickets previously purchased for the July concerts will be honored at the rescheduled October dates. Customer service will reach out directly to ticket holders with more information, per an announcement shared by WSOCTV.
The ongoing saga of Wallen's tumultuous relationship with the spotlight has provided plenty of fodder for both critics and fans. Amidst the controversy, his music continues to connect with a significant fanbase, one that, at least for the time being, seems willing to wait until October to catch his show. Loyal supporters are no doubt hoping the singer's health improves quickly and that no further postponements will be needed for these much-anticipated concerts.
