Authorities from the Metropolitan Police Department are seeking help from the public to locate a vehicle connected to an armed robbery in Southwest D.C. This request comes after an incident early Friday morning, in which suspects, armed with a rifle, targeted a victim and took their belongings. The robbery happened on the 200 block of I Street, Southwest, around 2:55 a.m. on July 19, as stated on the MPD's official release.
The MPD detailed that the suspects quickly had to exit their vehicle, confronted the victim with a rifle, demanded property, and then used the same vehicle to escape. The community plays a crucial role, with the police urging anyone with information that can help to identify the vehicle involved to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously via a call to (202) 727-9099 or by texting the MPD's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
In an effort to encourage community cooperation, the MPD is offering a significant reward. "The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia," according to the MPD's official release. This initiative is part of the department's ongoing efforts to address violent crimes in the area.
The department has emphasized that citizens should not try to directly intervene, but rather ensure to report any potential leads they have. Remembering that the safety of individuals is paramount, the MPD reiterates: "Anyone who can identify this vehicle, or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police."
