The Nashville Police Department took a registered sex offender into custody this week following alerts from Google about illicit content in his email accounts, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Special Victims Division. Joshua Lesler, 43, was arrested during his annual sex offender registry check-in without resistance.
During the investigation, it emerged that Lesler had hundreds of sexually explicit images of children stored in two Gmail accounts which were also linked to personal documents under his name, this grave discovery confirms the persistent plague of child exploitation material that still shadows corners of the internet despite ongoing attempts to eradicate it. Lesler confessed to detectives that he had been actively downloading the content from the dark web – a part of the internet often associated with illegal activities.
Facing dual counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, Lesler is currently held on a bond set at $100,000. The report indicated that the authorities expect to bring additional charges as the investigation continues, signaling that this incident may only be the surface layer of a deeper criminal engagement.
