The fire took place just north of Newnan, Georgia, and according to AP News, the Coweta County coroner reported the victims ranged in age from 6 to their 70s. Amidst grievous loss, locals have rallied to support the surviving members of the Bonner family.
The Bonner family had been staying with relatives while their own home was under renovation on Macedonia Road. It was at this relative's residence that the devastating fire occurred. While Coweta County Fire Rescue and other services are investigating the fire's cause, community members have stepped forward, taking action to rebuild not just a structure but a semblance of a home for the Bonners. Inside the gutted house, "dozens of local contractors have pledged materials and labor," co-project manager Jason Jordan told FOX 5 Atlanta, vowing swift aid to the family in mourning.
The response has been overwhelming, with volunteers and Coweta County businesses donating materials and time to the renovation project. Co-project managers Jason Jordan and Dee Grubbs, with teams that tore the interior down to the studs, described the work ahead as challenging yet rewarding. Amid the heartbreak, a semblance of healing comes with every hammer strike and saw sweep.
To supplement these efforts, a golf tournament is being planned to raise funds, offering an avenue for those beyond the local contractors to extend their help. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign started in June seeks to provide financial support for the family's reconstruction efforts. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, donations will be tax-deductible and can bolster the aim to help the family during this critical time of recovery.
The loss has been felt deeply by the community, with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office extending their condolences and asking for thoughts and prayers for those affected. Indeed, the fire's impact went beyond the occupants, also injuring a firefighter. As Newnan, a town about 40 miles from Atlanta, grieves, it also gathered an army ready to rebuild, brick by brick, the lives shattered by the flames.
