Motorists in North Carolina need to brace for traffic disruptions as the Complete 540 Project moves forward. Due to foul weather conditions, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority announced rescheduled road closures for U.S. 401 and Donny Brook Road, affecting travel plans from July 26 at 9:00 p.m., until July 29 at 5:00 a.m. The construction is part of an effort to extend the Triangle Expressway from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40, aimed at improving transportation networks in the region.
The initial closure will block U.S. 401 between Donny Brook Road, and W. Allen Street from July 26 through July 28. During this time, access will be maintained for local traffic south of Ten Ten Road. Drivers are urged to plan alternate routes or follow detour signs that navigate around the construction zone. In particular, the detour for northbound U.S. 401 traffic will be routed via Lake Wheeler Road, and Ten Ten Road.
Following the first phase of closure, Donny Brook Road is slated to shut down at the intersection with U.S. 401, beginning on July 28 and continuing through the next morning. Further detours will lead drivers around the perimeter of the work zone, ensuring that though pathways are disrupted, connectivity remains possible for those needing passage.
The closures have been coordinated to minimize the impact on nearby institutions such as Wake Technical Community College Southern Wake Campus.
