The San Antonio luxury real estate market is witnessing notable listings including homes with significant histories and famous previous owners. In a trend where high-end homes are remaining on the market for a median of 40 days, the home of the late Paul Pesthy, an illustrious former Olympian who competed in both fencing and pentathlon, has been listed for sale by his family. As reported by FOX San Antonio, Pesthy's daughter, Christina Arp, remarked on the emotional process of selling the home, saying "It was pretty much a labor of love. It is very hard because you know all of him is in that house."
Facing the current climate of a luxury market where affluent buyers are increasingly making all-cash purchases, as nearly 47% of high-end home transactions did not involve mortgages last quarter of 2023, according to findings from Redfin shared by FOX San Antonio, this particular $1.2 million estate offers acres of land along with unique repurposed materials among its bespoke features, but it's not only about the amenities; as the home's realtor Kristen Saglimbeni noted, it boasts the additional benefit of no city taxes due to its location outside city limits. Meanwhile, another sports icon's property enters the market, with NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal listing his Dallas-Fort Worth home for nearly $1.7 million, this five-bedroom Carrollton residence promises high-end appliances, built-in office shelving, and an idyllic poolside view complete with palm trees, as MySanAntonio reported.
Christina Arp emphasized the family's patient approach in finding the right custodian for her father's cherished home, telling FOX San Antonio, "We'd like somebody in there that loves the home and will care for it as he did." The legacy of Pesthy's athletic prowess adds a layer of prestige to the property, capturing a slice of Olympic history.
O'Neal's decision to sell one of his two Texas homes comes as a reflection of the shifting dynamics in the luxury real estate segment, where the scale of investment and the allure of a renowned name can significantly influence a property's market presence. In O’Neal’s case, the creation of an inviting ambiance has been paramount, with details such as an "open concept with soaring ceilings, a fireplace, and a wall of windows," contributing to the home's attractiveness, the listing by Roger Healy described with an emphasis on the home's ample leisure and entertainment spaces, as per the insight provided by MySanAntonio.
