Two separate incidents on Friday night left one man dead and another critically injured in Chicago. The first, occurring on the West Side, took the life of a 40-year-old man during an argument in a basement apartment. The Fox32 Chicago reports the victim was shot multiple times in the chest and back around 11:35 p.m. in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue. The suspect associated with this incident is now in custody, with recovered evidence and pending charges, as informed by Area Four detectives.
In a tragically close sequence of events, merely to happen minutes prior, a 24-year-old man was found with critical injuries in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune. The man suffered wounds to his head and body and was taken to UChicago Medicine in critical condition. As of this report, no one has been taken into custody regarding this shooting, but investigations are ongoing.
Details from the two incidents underscore an evening grimly marked by gun violence within the city. In the West Side shooting, a weapon was found at the scene, and an individual known to the victim is suspected, hinting at a personal dispute turned fatal. The South Side shooting's circumstances remain under scrutiny, with detectives piecing together the events that led to the critical wounding of the young man.
