A tragic event unfolded on the Fourth of July when 13-year-old Rose Thalie Dieujuste was found partially naked and stabbed to death in an apartment complex's storage room in Orlando. Dieujuste had moved to Orlando for what her family hoped would be a better life, after relocating from Haiti with her brothers in 2023, WFTV reported.
According to WESH, belief, and sorrow, intertwined as Dieujuste's family struggled to come to terms with the brutality of her death. The victim's cousin, Dieuriper Colin, expressed their collective heartache, saying, "What I'm feeling, there's no explanation for it. It's just hurt, hurt, hurt like crazy." Colin further noted how close they were, mentioning how he helped her with schoolwork and taught her basketball. Jerry Dorisme, 28, was arrested in connection with her murder.
Dorisme, who reportedly did not know Dieujuste, was seen leaving the scene on the apartment complex's surveillance video, and following "tips from the community," authorities apprehended him. According to WFTV, Orange County Sheriff John Mina called the killing "senseless" and lamented the difficulty in predicting and preventing such crimes. Dorisme has been charged with first-degree felony murder, with his first court appearance delayed for mental health evaluations.
Court records reveal a troubling history as Dorisme was arrested for multiple violent crimes since 2018 including an arrest for Lewd and Lascivious molestation in 2020, which was later reduced to aggravated child abuse resulting in five years on probation. In remembrance of Dieujuste, and to aid the family with their loss, a GoFundMe page has been established to help with the funeral expenses.
