A brutal encounter in Petaluma last week left an 18-year-old victim injured and a 17-year-old suspect in custody. According to the Petaluma Police Department, the incident occurred last Friday, around 7:51 PM. Dispatchers received a call from the victim reporting an assault on the 60 block of East Washington Street.
Officers arrived at the scene and conducted interviews, piecing together the events from eyewitnesses and surveillance footage. The victim claimed to have been beaten up by an assailant who punched him to the ground and continued the assault with multiple strikes, leading to head injuries. Treated by paramedics at the scene, the victim then self-transported himself to a local hospital for further care. The suspect, a 17-year-old local, was known to the victim.
The investigation led to the swift apprehension of the suspect. After reviewing the collected evidence, the juvenile was arrested and charged with felony assault-243(d) PC. "The juvenile suspect was transported to the Sonoma County Juvenile Detention Center in Santa Rosa," according to the Petaluma Police Department.
