Phoenix Community Mourns 3-Year-Old's Pool Drowning, Calls for Pool Fence Safety MeasuresSource: Google Street View

A 3-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being discovered submerged and unconscious in a Phoenix pool on Tuesday morning. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred at a home near 64th Street and Cactus Road. Despite efforts to revive him with CPR before emergency crews arrived, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

As per the Phoenix Fire Department, the precise length of time the child spent in the water remains unknown. Found in a residential area that doubles as a vacation rental, the pool lacked a life-saving barrier—a fence that might have prevented the young boy's access. Phoenix Fire officials advocate for a pool fence to be at least five feet high as a precaution against similar tragedies. Captain Todd Keller, speaking with concern, stressed the importance of vigilant supervision when children are near water, saying, "If you have eight children in the pool, maybe you should have one person for each child in the water," as stated by FOX 10 Phoenix.

The boy's death is currently under investigation by the Phoenix Police Department. The incident has sparked an urgent dialogue around safety measures at short-term rental properties, with neighbors like Donnie Brull expressing that the tragedy "may ignite a conversation about short-term rental property policies regarding pools and fences," as he told FOX 10 Phoenix.

“It’s your responsibility to watch your kid in the water,” Keller said, as reported by AZ Family. The Phoenix Police have taken over the investigation.
