Phoenix's fight against food waste has taken a strategic turn with the introduction of a new pilot program, courtesy of a collaboration between Kitchen on the Street and Knead Technologies. Together, these organizations have launched an endeavor, supported by the City of Phoenix's Office of Environmental Programs, to make a dent in the local food waste statistics while simultaneously contributing to food security. As reported by ABC15, surplus food, and compostable waste will be collected from various points including farms and eateries across the Valley.

The program's approach is multi-pivotal, involving a logistical collaboration designed to create a more circular food system. According to Invest in Phoenix, this initiative is not just about whisking away undesired scraps; it's about re-routing potential waste to those who find it most valuable—the city's food-insecure populations. This tactical reallocation includes a roster of volunteer drivers dedicated to delivering collected food where it's needed most.

Rosanne Albright, the Environmental Programs Manager for the City of Phoenix, expressed optimism, noting, "The unique technology and circular approach from Knead combined with the partnership with Kitchen on the Street will help the City to advance our goal of diverting food waste from our landfills and decreasing food insecurity." A statement echoed by Lisa Scarpinato, Co-Founder and CEO of Kitchen on the Street, who told Invest in Phoenix, "We are excited to partner with Knead Technologies on this vital initiative. Together, we can make a significant impact on food waste reduction and food security in our community."

The pilot doesn't solely focus on redistribution but also on elevating environmental responsibility by converting compostable waste into fertile compost, thus supporting sustainable agriculture—a point of pride for both participating organizations. "Our innovative approach to managing food waste aligns perfectly with Kitchen on the Street's mission. This pilot project is a significant step towards a sustainable future," remarked Lourdes Juan, Co-Founder & CEO of Knead Technologies, during an interview with Invest in Phoenix
