Wade Evans, a 13-year-old boy from Phoenix, is on the mend after a harrowing incident with a firework that left him without a thumb and index finger on his right hand, the boy's healing process has unfolded over months since the accident which occurred two days after Christmas last year, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Wade's recovery required sustained hospitalization and close medical attention. "We were at (Phoenix) Children's Hospital for a month, and I was home with him for 2 months after that," his mother, Natalie Evans, shared in an account with the news outlet.

The accident transpired in the Evans' family garage when Wade lit a firework that unexpectedly detonated in his hand, causing severe injury—his hand was left, in his own stark terms, "split in half." As the young man screamed for help, rushing from the garage to his house, the severity of the situation was immediately clear. After the incident, he was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital for emergency treatment "He was going for physical therapy and surgeries twice a week," Natalie told FOX 10 Phoenix.

Despite the gravity of the wounds, Wade has shown resilience; he initially planned to adapt by learning to write and play video games with his left hand. Yet ultimately, and perhaps testament to his determination, he has returned to using his injured hand again, as he conveyed in an interview: "Actually, I tried but I didn't," as per FOX 10 Phoenix, "I just started writing with this hand again and I still do," he added. "It's not hurting or anything. It's almost normal".

This strength and optimism echo despite the changes to Wade's life the incident has delivered, and while his hand will never revert to its pre-incident state, the boy did not let his injury prevent him from enjoying. "It's been a long road to recovery for Wade Evans who spent the 4th of July watching fireworks instead of lighting them," as stated by by AllSides.
