A tragic incident unfolded yesterday morning in Piermont, New Hampshire, where 58-year-old Michael A. Johnson of Bedford drowned while fishing on Lake Tarleton. NBC Boston reported that New Hampshire State Police were called to the scene around 9:28 a.m. following a distressing call about a drowning.
Authorities discovered that two men were thrown into the water when their canoe capsized. Sadly, neither individual was wearing a flotation device, a critical piece of safety equipment that could have potentially averted the fatality. Despite efforts to quickly save him, police say life-saving measures were to ultimately prove unsuccessful. One of the fishermen managed to get to safety and, upon realizing his companion was face down in the water, he promptly sought help from nearby witnesses.
The man who tragically lost his life was later identified by police as Michael A. Johnson. Adding to the details, WHDH noted that State Police Marine Patrol Sgt. Seth Alie is calling for anyone with information about the incident to step forward and contact 603-227-2117 with any pertinent details that may assist in the investigation.
