Last evening, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire tackled a 2-alarm blaze that erupted in a mixed-use structure on Brownsville Road in Carrick. Crews were called to the scene at around 7:07 p.m., confronting both flames and challenging conditions within the building, the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter detailed.
During the operation, a male was rescued from one of the apartments on the second floor. After the rescue, he was immediately transferred to the hospital, however, his current condition remains undisclosed. The Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter reports that the fire escalated, prompting a greater response, and three firefighters from Engine 23 were likewise sent to the hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.
The building's conditions posed additional risks for the firefighting team. Reports indicated that parts of the residential area were burdened with hoarding, complicating the navigation and firefighting efforts inside the structure. As standard protocol, the Fire Investigation Unit is involved and currently investigating the root cause of the fire. No official cause has been declared at the time of writing.
