A shadow of concern has briefly passed over the Pittsburgh Mayor's Office after a recent downtown shooting incident linked to someone within Mayor Ed Gainey's inner circle. In a turn of events, it was revealed that the Executive Assistant to Mayor Gainey is in a personal relationship with an individual who was arrested in connection to the shooting that took place on July 16th. As reported by the Office of the Mayor, the assistant was unaware of the incident, has been ruled out as a person of interest, and is actively cooperating with law enforcement officials.
The shooting, which occurred in the heart of downtown, has started to quickly draw public attention and scrutiny towards city hall. Chief of Staff Wheatley from the Mayor's Office was prompt to address the connection, stating the Executive Assistant "had no knowledge of the incident, is not considered to be a person of interest, is fully cooperating with the investigation, and will not receive any information or details about it." It's a delicate balance the office aims to maintain—supporting the assistant in their cooperation with the investigation while working to surely keep the administration's integrity intact, as detailed by the City of Pittsburgh.
With an active investigation underway, the Mayor's Office is keeping further commentary at bay. "At this time, due to the active and ongoing investigation, we will have no further comments on the matter," the Chief of Staff stated, according to the press release, advising the public and media alike to patiently wait for more details to emerge as they continue to not immediately disclose any new information.
