Police are investigating a severe injury incident in downtown Pittsburgh after a man was found unresponsive early this morning. According to the City of Pittsburgh police blotter, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 3 a.m. on Cherry Way at First Ave. The male victim, whose identity and age are currently unknown, was discovered with significant injuries.
An initial report indicated that the victim had suffered injuries to the back of his head, but this has been updated to reflect that the trauma was to the front of his head. He was found with a serious contusion to one eye, and despite the misconception, there was no mention of injuries to the back of his head in the revised statement. He was quickly transported to a local hospital by Pittsburgh EMS and remains in critical condition, intubated, and unable to communicate with the authorities.
As part of their investigation, the Pittsburgh Police are scrutinizing available video footage to piece together the events leading to the man's injuries. The 9-1-1 caller, who came upon the injured man, stated that they did not recognize him, adding a layer of mystery to the already complex case.
