A tragic altercation on Elmwood Street has left a community in shock after a man was accused of severely assaulting his neighbor and killing her dog. John Lee Mack Jr., a 27-year-old man, is currently facing a raft of charges including aggravated assault and aggravated cruelty to animals. The violent encounter ensued when the woman, who asked Mack to lower the volume of his music due to her medical condition, was met with an escalation of noise and violence, as detailed by WTAE.
According to the victim, the issue started when Mack pulled up near her home, blaring loud music from his car. After the woman requested a reduction of volume citing her sensitivity to noise because of severe seizures, Mack reportedly turned the volume up instead. This interaction rapidly deteriorated as Mack allegedly confronted her and, fearing an attack from her German Shepherd, retaliated with lethal force.
Upon arrival, Port Vue police found the woman lying injured next to her deceased pet. Mack, taken into custody at the scene, offered an account of self-defense to law enforcement. He claimed the victim incited the dog to "get him," which prompted him to retrieve his gun from inside his home, as per WPXI.
