In a development that marks a mixture of closure and continuation for a tragic situation that has enveloped a Portland community since last December, the owner of the dogs involved in a fatal mauling of a child has been indicted on multiple felony charges. Koko M. Miller, 56, is facing a jury's decision on serious accusations, including Criminally Negligent Homicide and Maintaining a Dangerous Dog, as reported by Oregon Live.
Miller has also been indicted on two counts of Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree, as per the findings of the Portland Police Bureau's Child Abuse Team, which handed over their investigation to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. Eventually, a grand jury concluded there was enough evidence to proceed with charges, giving weight to the gravity of the case.
The attack, which occurred earlier than the fateful tug-of-war between justice and the shadow of loss that has since ensued, led to swift action by authorities. The two dogs directly implicated in the mauling were euthanized, while a third canine, found at the scene but not immediately tied to the attack, continues to be held by Multnomah County Animal Services during the ongoing probe.
As this legal drama unfolds, the Portland Police Bureau has refrained from offering additional information regarding the case.
