As the overcast morning gives way to sunshine, Portland residents can steadily prepare for a warm and pleasant weekend, according to the National Weather Service. The latest update indicates that while the current temperature sits at a crisp 57°F, the city should experience a gradual warm-up with highs nearing 83 degrees by this afternoon. The calm winds, originating from the northwest, are expected to stay light with speeds around 6 mph.
The upward trend in temperature is not set to fully take hold until later this week, as evidenced by forecasts for Sunday showing mostly sunny skies with highs just tipping near 80. For those planning to enjoy their evenings outdoors, nighttime temperatures are projected to cool down to a comfortable 58 degrees.
Looking ahead to the start of the workweek, Monday will bring a noticeable shift with a 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 11 am, and an overcast sky capping temperatures at 77 degrees. The NWS forecast also hints at the potential for rain to continue into Monday night, with a 50 percent chance of showers and a low dipping to around 63 degrees. With precipitation amounts expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, it shouldn't be too much of a damper for those venturing outside.
As the clouds start to better clear by mid-week, Wednesday promises mostly sunny conditions with temperatures soaring back up to about 84 degrees. Such balmy weather looks to set the stage for even hotter days following, hitting a high of 90 on Thursday and climbing further to a scorching 93 degrees by Friday. Evening temperatures will continue offering relief, maintaining mostly clear skies with lows around the 61 to 63-degree range throughout the second half of the week.
