In a concerted effort to enhance gun safety within the community, multiple locations across the Prescott region are now distributing Project ChildSafe gun locks. According to a public notice from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, these locations include law enforcement agencies and the Gunsite Academy Pro Shop.
Residents can pick up a free gun lock at any participating location, which notably features several police departments, such as the Prescott Police Department at 222 S. Marina St., Prescott Valley Police Department at 7601 Civic Circle, and Chino Valley Police Department at 1950 Voss Dr. Ensuring firearms are securely stored, the Project aims to prevent accidental discharges and unauthorized access, especially by children. Gun owners looking for the safety kits available for distribution can also visit locales in Williamson Valley, Camp Verde, the Village of Oak Creek, Mayer, and Bagdad.
Each location has staff trained in the proper use of these gun locks. Gunsite Academy Pro Shop, a notable inclusion at 2900 W. Gunsite Road in Paulden, will provide not only the free locks but also guidance on safe handling and storage of firearms. As gun safety becomes an increasingly critical topic in communities nationwide, these various distribution points across the Prescott area underscore a local commitment to proactive preventative measures.
The distribution initiative, bolstered by local law enforcement engagement, reflects an ongoing push towards reducing firearms-related accidents. Gun owners are encouraged by the authorities to take full advantage of these resources to ensure guns are not just tools of defense or sport, but also of responsibility and safety.
