Tragedy struck Wilmington on Monday night, as a car burst into flames, with a mother and her two young children trapped inside. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of A Street and South Walnut Street, according to FOX29. Local authorities reported to the scene after receiving calls about the vehicle fire and the possibility of passengers being unable to escape.

While en route, firefighters were informed that children were reported to be trapped inside the burning car. Upon their arrival, however, they discovered that employees from a nearby detailing shop had managed to quickly extract the two children from the inferno. The children, identified as an 8-month-old baby and a 5-year-old, were treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital suffering from serious second-degree and third-degree burns, as detailed by NBC Philadelphia.

The driver, also the mother of the children, was able to escape the burning vehicle and was subsequently taken to the hospital with severe burns. Employees from the detailing shop's heroic actions undoubtedly changed the course of the evening, preventing what could have been a fatal disaster. Currently, the cause of the fire remains unreported as investigations continue into what ignited the blaze.

Good Samaritans have been credited with the timely rescue of the young victims. "The children both suffered extensive burns and were transported to Nemours Children's Hospital in serious condition," stated authorities, as reported by 6abc. The mother was taken to Christiana Trauma Center, her condition is yet to be publicly disclosed.
