West Mifflin's routine hum was disrupted Wednesday when a Hazmat team descended upon Copart Auto Auction, following reports of a truck carrying radioactive symbols, according to WTAE. A crate inside the vehicle also displayed similar ominous markings, causing concern and prompting a thorough investigation by emergency responders.
Despite the initial alarm, radiation technicians, who examined the truck, reported negative findings for the presence of radioactive materials. These findings were a small sigh of relief for the six workers who interacted with the vehicle and were subsequently evaluated for radiation exposure, medics were already on the scene as a precaution. After further inspection, Hazmat confirmed that the truck did indeed contain some residual acid, though no further details on the nature or potential risks of this acid were provided, WPXI reports.
The area around Copart Auto Auction became a site of coordinated efforts as different agencies worked together to secure the scene. Information about the origin of the truck, its journey to the lot, or how it came to bear the radioactive markings and house potentially hazardous substances remains scant.
