In the wake of the devastation left by Hurricane Beryl, Houston's own rapper Bun B has teamed up with celebrated chef Ronnie Killen to provide some comforting relief in the form of free brisket sandwiches. Yesterday, the duo distributed the sandwiches at Killen's BBQ, with a follow-up act today for those still reeling from the storm's effects. "I love what @ronniekillen @killensbbq is doing today in Pearland," Bun B posted on Instagram, praising the efforts of his culinary ally. Locals flocked to the Pearland location, responding to Bun B's social media announcement of the giveaway, which also saw support for friends who were hit hard by the Monday hurricane, according to Houston Chronicle.
The partnership between Bun B and Killen goes beyond emergency food relief. Earlier this year, attendees at RodeoHouston witnessed the launch of new menu items born from this fusion: the Trillen’s Burger and the Trillen’s Brisket Fries. A combination of smash burger patties, American cheese, and bacon, topped with beer-battered onion rings and Killen’s Sweet Barbecue Sauce, the Trillen's Burger could be upgraded with an extra helping of brisket. The fries, a base for Killen's BBQ brisket, were dressed with sauces, queso, and a mix of pickles, onions, and jalapenos. These mouthwatering collaborations made their debut at the Trill Burgers booth, with the event spicing up the local culinary offerings from start to finish on March 17.
