A section of State Route 525, known to locals as Mukilteo Speedway, was shut down today in both directions as firefighters tackled a residential fire that had been extinguished earlier but flared up again hours later. The initial blaze on the 7600 block of the Mukilto Speedway was reported at about 4:30 a.m. and was thought to be under control until it rekindled within the attic, as Mukilteo Fire Chief Glen Albright relayed to KIRO7.
The resurgence of the fire necessitated the closure of all lanes at 76th Street Southwest starting around 10:30 a.m., causing notable traffic disruptions while emergency teams responded to the scene, footage from a Washington State Department of Transportation camera depicted numerous fire trucks and a haze of smoke lingering above the impacted area.
Fire crews from Mukilteo and surrounding communities have been working to manage the situation and prevent further outbreaks of the fire, while local law enforcement directed motorists to seek alternative routes. Pictures of the structural damage inflicted by the fire have been shared by the Mukilteo Fire Department on social media, highlighting the severity of the incident, as reported by KOMO News.
