The North Chicago Fire Department was dispatched to a distressing scene at the Foss Park District Community Recreation Center earlier this week. According to CBS News, firefighters were called to rescue three kittens found dumped in a porta-potty. The call came in on July 9, and upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with the concerning sight of the small animals trapped amid human waste in the portable toilet.
The rescue operation was led by Battalion Chief Thomas Deinken, who managed to extract the kittens, described as "frightened and extremely soiled," from their precarious situation. They were taken back to the fire station where the fire personnel cleaned and cared for them, attending to their immediate needs, as per Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Following their ordeal, and multiple baths to remove the filth they had been subjected to, the three kittens have been rehomed. The North Chicago Fire Department stated, "fortunately been rehomed to a more suitable environment where they can properly develop and grow in a way that will give them the life they deserve," as detailed by Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
"This conduct is completely unacceptable and against the law," the officials were quoted as saying, "Please understand and make no mistake: this behavior will never be acceptable or tolerated in our community," shared CBS News.
