Residents of Kaua'i, specifically those who frequent Oka Street in Kilauea, should prepare for some disruption at the tail end of this month. According to the County of Kaua'i press release, a full road closure is on the schedule for road resurfacing works. From July 31 to August 2, travel along Oka Street, from Kilauea Road to the Oka Street cul-de-sac, will be off-limits each day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This maintenance work is crucial to keep the roadway smooth and safe for drivers.
The call to plan accordingly is clear. Folks will need to quickly adapt, preparing to traverse alternate routes and to potentially leave earlier to reach their destinations on time. The Department of Public Works and Maui Kupono Builders, the contractor handling the job, have made it known that residents in the area will still have access to their homes despite the impediments. However, during these hours, parking will be a no-go in the work zones.
Traffic accommodations have been considered amidst this temporary closure. Flaggers will be on hand to guide vehicles, ensuring that those living within the work scope won't be left stranded. Even with these measures in place, the temporary inaccessibility of Oka Street is bound to impact daily routines.
