A fatal road rage confrontation in Surprise, Arizona has led to the death of a 33-year-old man and the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect. The incident, which occurred close to the junction of 163rd and Grand avenues around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, resulted in James Nicholas Solano-Aguilar suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite efforts to save him, Solano-Aguilar succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. He was identified by azfamily.com as an active military member.

The suspect, Jaidev Christian Spicely, quickly to fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement officers. However, Surprise Police reportedly were able to identify Spicely based on witness information, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. In a twist of conscience or fear, Spicely called the police to turn himself in as officers were in transit to apprehend him. He was arrested without incident and has been charged with second-degree murder, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and discharge of a firearm within city limits.

The event was captured on camera, and passersby, including Joe and Stacy Morel—who had just finished their grocery shopping—witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. Stacy, a nurse, immediately offered medical assistance and performed CPR on the victim. Joe Morel, in an interview with FOX 10 Phoenix, expressed a visceral reaction to the incident: "Just to see the little girl kind of hanging out the window and, you know, yelling for her parents now, knowing that one was dead, who was on the ground and that mom was obviously concerned for her husband, but also has to worry about the children, it just leaves a pit in your stomach."

Authorities are urging drivers to stay calm and to avoid engagement with aggressive behavior on the road. "If there's something going on that's troubling you, someone who's driving aggressive, someone who's driving unsafe while they're on the roadway, we encourage everybody to be a good witness," advised Sgt. Rick Hernandez, as quoted by FOX 10 Phoenix. Drivers are recommended to safely distance themselves from the situation and contact police if they feel threatened. The Surprise Police Department is seeking any additional information about the shooting and can be reached at (623) 222-4000 or through their email at [email protected].
