The City of Seattle has welcomed a new Chief Technology Officer, Rob Lloyd, whose tenure began on June 24. Migrating from the tech hub of San José, California, Lloyd brings a rich history of government and utilities experience to the rain-drenched tech landscape of the Emerald City, according to an announcement in Tech Talk.
Lloyd, whose resume includes a stint as Deputy City Manager in San José with oversight of Transportation, Aviation, and Technology services, also served as the Chief Information Officer there before heading north. His tenure in technology leadership extends past the boundaries of the Golden State, having held C-level positions in Arizona, Oregon, and Colorado. "I was drawn to this job because of Mayor Harrell’s One Seattle Vision," Lloyd expressed, emphasizing the comprehensive and collaborative spirit he hopes to champion in his new role.
The City of Seattle's IT department plays a critical part in operational and public service efficiency, utilizing technology as the backbone for responsive service delivery to its residents. Lloyd shared with his new team in Seattle IT, "What’s most important is that we work with integrity and a sense of mission as we unleash the brilliance of our City’s people." He laid out a vision where technology will drive meaningful organizational and community transformations, aligning with goals to generate opportunities for both families and businesses under the Mayor's One Seattle initiative.
Lloyd's move does not just signify a professional transition, but also a personal one. He and his family are set to relocate to the Pacific Northwest, bringing them closer to his wife's family roots. As the new CTO, Lloyd is expected to infuse fresh momentum into the Seattle IT department, with teams already gearing up to advance the strategic plans laid out for the city’s technological future.
