The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has laid out plans to commence a significant resurfacing project along a stretch of Route 309, known as Fort Washington Expressway, covering several townships including Upper Dublin, Whitemarsh, and Springfield within Montgomery County, as reported yesterday on Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the roadway with a new layer of bituminous material, which is expected to provide a smoother travel experience.
Scheduled to kick off on August 12, the project is set to introduce temporary travel disruptions. According to PennDOT, frequent nighttime lane closures are forthcoming in both directions on Route 309 spanning from the Susquehanna Road and the Springfield interchanges, noted to occur between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The revamp, which will focus primarily on a 10-mile segment of the expressway along with associated ramps, is slated to extend through mid-October.
Motorists traversing these parts are advised to be prepared for potential delays and to exercise caution during the resurfacing operations. The new pavement is not only expected to improve the driving surface but also to act as a sealant for the expressway, thus reinforcing the long-term endurance of the road infrastructure. The project coverage includes an area between Loch Alsh Avenue and Haws Lane.
