A Saginaw County man's routine stop for gas turned into a life-changing moment when he won a $4 million jackpot from a Michigan Lottery scratch-off ticket. The 52-year-old man purchased his winning ticket, a $4,000,000 Ultimate game, from the Fastlane convenience store at 3540 State St. in Saginaw, FOX 2 Detroit reports. Initial disbelief led him to scan the ticket twice before realizing the validity of his win—it wasn't a broken scanner but a genuine prompt to file a claim for the substantial amount.
While still at the gas station, upon scratching the ticket and scanning the unexpected ticket, the winner's shock was vocalized as he exclaimed in his vehicle, "We just won $4 million." With the winnings, he opted for a one-time lump-sum payment estimated at $2.7 million, citing plans to purchase land and investments, as abc12 reported. Players of the game have collectively won over $11 million since its launch in June, with more than $148 million in prizes yet to be claimed, including two additional $3 million top prizes.
"I stopped to get gas and bought two $4,000,000 Ultimate tickets while I was in the store," the lucky winner, who requested to remain anonymous, said, as per MLive. The Michigan Lottery has been a source of considerable financial contributions to state initiatives like the School Aid Fund, with contributions reaching $1.3 billion in 2023, emphasized by Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli in her statement on the win.
